What are Yoga Baby classes?

Yoga Baby class is a special hour of connection time between parent and baby. It’s gentle stretching, breathwork and relaxation for you both, not really so much about "exercise", as tuning into each other’s rhythms and becoming aware of how aware of each other you are! It’s learning about and having fun with each other, and sharing this time with others.
YogaBaby classes are offered once per session, usually on a weekday morning or afternoon. YogaBabies are 3 weeks to 6 months old.

What are the Physical Benefits?

For both parent and child, the physical benefits of yoga include:
  • stimulating the epidermal, digestive, lymphatic, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems
  • helping to cleanse the body of toxins and balance the endocrine and nervous systems (emotions)
  • aligning vertebrae, strengthening muscles and increasing spinal flexibility
  • releasing the hormones associated with well-being and lowering others associated with anxiety
  • digestive balance. Many colicky or gassy babies are much more fun to live with after some YogaBaby movements!

Are There Other Benefits for the Baby?

For the baby, the gentle movement you do together helps
  • to develop a sense of security, safety, and emotional stability
  • to set the stage for later emotional development and relationships
  • to recover from the birth experience
  • and to prepare for movement by mobilizing the spine and thus freeing vital life energy to circulate more freely

What are Some Other Benefits for the Parent?

For the parent, other benefits include:
  • targeted but gentle healing, core strengthening and re-building in the critical 6 month window from childbirth
  • releasing tension and fatigue and increasing energy and concentration
  • a time to connect with self and learning the importance of caring for another from a centred, balanced place
  • a chance to discover the unique child, thus helping to avoid "my version of you" and to begin the process of guiding the child into who they were meant to be
It’s learning to not always be minding baby, rather to relax, and become comfortable with each other.
